Responsible for developing and maintaining laboratory testing readiness through instrumentation purchases/installations or upgrades, compliant scientific procedures and quality control/quality assurance that meet the scientific community’s standard practice(s). Develop metrics to assess pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical performance measures. LIMS development and implementation. Provide clinical and medical legal interpretations (Pharmacological/Toxicological and Pharmacogenetics (when applicable)). Maintain/develop new accreditation and licensure programs to enhance Witham’s laboratory capabilities (Clinical and Forensic toxicology services).
Medical Director – LabPro Inc LLC: August 2015 to July 2017
Responsible for the overall operation of the lab and the competency of all laboratory personnel: Verify testing systems and methods (SOP’s) provide quality laboratory services for pre- analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases of testing including accuracy, precision, and other performance measures. Ensure that laboratory reports, case interpretations and client services meet the standard of care accepted by the scientific, forensic, and medical communities. Oversee (or designee) the hiring and internal/external professional development of the laboratory personnel, develop, and participate in proficiency testing and licensure secured and accreditation achieved: (COLA/CLIA/CAP as well as; New York, California, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Florida, and New Jersey’s Departments of Public Health), comprehensively evaluate the laboratory performance. Continuing education of physician pain management and addiction centers.
Develop, purchase, budget and maintain the technology implemented in the laboratory, as well as new technologies integrated (Pain Management, Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, and Compliance Monitoring. Women Health/Infectious Disease and Pharmacogenetics). Analytical platforms: LCMSMS, EMIT, Quant Studio – TaqMan Gene Expression, Architect, Clinitek – Advantus, Dimension RXL, Dimension RXL Max, Microscan, Systemex CA- 500 and Systemex XS – 1000. Test volume 7 million plus test(s) conducted annually.
Associate Professor – Indiana University School of Medicine, Department of Pharmacology- Toxicology and Department of Pathology Laboratory Medicine: January 2008 to July 2014
Research interests in the following areas: Neurological and cardiac toxicity as it relates to neurological receptors in the CNS, as well as potassium/calcium ion channel dysfunction (channelopathies) and prescription treatment for pain management – methadone as the drug model. The role pharmacogenetics plays in ion channel(s) formation (example the hERG gene) and CYP 450 metabolizing enzyme variants (therapeutic drugs and drugs of abuse). These linkage studies are
designed to assist in determining at risk patients for cardiovascular, metabolic and/or neurological toxicity. Other areas of research involve metals (ex. Transitional and other elements) leading to tissue and neuronal damage. For example, chemotherapeutic agents such as Cisplatin and how the molecular mechanism establishes its efficacy. New research laboratory design (3D dimensional modular design incorporating ergonomics and energy efficient concepts). Thermo-ICP/MS, Thermo-LC/MS, Agilent GC/MS and LCMSMS, RT-PCR are available technologies. Academics: Course director and principal lecturer for Toxicology series. Curriculum topic covered Mechanism of Toxicology, ADME of drugs and toxicants, biotransformation of Xenobiotics, Risk assessments, Chemical Carcinogenesis and Genetic Toxicology.
