Completion of a two (2) year curriculum that included on-site on-the-job training within the Washington, D.C. Police Department’s Firearms Unit. This curriculum was written by a retired FBI Firearms Expert and a retired Virginia Firearms Expert, and adopted by AFTE and the ATF Firearms Academy as their training curriculum.
Training provided by firearm manufacturers to disassemble and reassemble their firearms to manufacture specifications:
Determining the presence of residue and distance of muzzle to target in shooting incidents.
Determining the approximate location of the shooter.
Training provided by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms that explains the techniques used to restore obliterated serial numbers.
Training provided by Forensic Technologies and The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms in operating procedures and entering ammunition components recovered from crime scenes into a computer database to determine if other crime scenes may be associated.
