Uses AccessData Forensic Toolkit software (FTK) to extract many kinds of files including deleted files from laptops, desktops, and computer drives. Can search computer user’s typed URLs, downloaded photos, contacts, and emails. Produces reports based on findings from extraction. Trained by AccessData in 2016 and received relevant certificates in the examination of computer drives.
Performs handwriting examinations on signatures, anonymous letters, last wills and testaments, and purchase orders, etc. Performs document examinations using alternate lighting sources and transmitted light. This also includes inspections with the naked eye as well as under magnification using a microscope. Alignment grids are used to measure misalignments within documents and side lighting is used to identify impressions in documents. A VSC 6000 is used to examine the documents under magnification, with different wavelengths of light, and with changes in lighting to identify differences between documents and ink. Participated in the 2019 FBI Black Box Study that included over 100 handwriting examinations. Trained under Erich Speckin continuously since June 2015 (approximately 7 years) and passed independent proficiency testing in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021.
Operates a gas chromatograph mass spectrometer to determine the estimated age of ink on paper. Conducts thin layer chromatography (TLC) on questioned ink samples to compare many inks on a questioned document and to identify the type of ink used. Trained under Erich Speckin continuously since June 2015 (approximately 7 years).
Performs examinations of questioned documents using an electrostatic detection apparatus (ESDA) to visualize latent impressions that are generally left when information is written on a top page, leaving an impression or impressions on the page or pages underneath. Makes court presentations of findings. Trained under Erich Speckin continuously since June of 2015 (approximately 7 years).
Follows accredited protocol to test for semen, saliva and blood on garments and other common articles submitted to the lab. Checks for sperm heads by microscopic examination of extracted cells from garment or object using Christmas Tree Staining method. Proficiency tested and passed 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021. Trained by Dr. Julie Howenstine with over 20 years of experience in biological and DNA testing.
